WA government gives $1.98 million for construction of Indigenous-owned Spinifex Brewing’s Broome alehouse

First Nations-owned Spinifex Brewing Co have been given almost $2 million dollars by the WA government towards the construction of their micro-brewery and alehouse in Broome.

The Broome-based craft brewer was awarded a grant of $1.98 million under the governments Investment Attraction Fund, which was set up to create local jobs and diversify WA’s economy.

The Cable Beach brewery, which is expected to start pouring beers by the end of 2023, will have a children’s playground, large outdoor LED screen and stage for live sports and music performances.

There will also be a 600 hundred-litre floating foam brewery, Italian artisan hybrid pizza oven and gubinge (Kakadu Plum) forest from which native Indigenous botanicals can be cultivated, harvested, and used in our range of non-alcoholic beverages.

Spinifex Brewing Co’s CEO Adam Barnard said as Broome local, he was proud to make the announcement in his hometown.

“As is evident across the world the growth of family-oriented venues has grown exponentially and as I’m sure most Broome residents and visitors alike, would agree Broome has lacked a family friendly hospitality venue offering,” he said.

Spinifex is also putting the money where its mouth is when it comes to supporting the local community by teaming up with North Regional TAFE Hospitality Centre to provide a pathway for employment opportunities for hospitality students.

The Indigenous brewery – which is famous for its Australian native-flavoured beers is also getting behind local artists, with world-renowned metal sculptor Jordan Spriggs designing the centrepiece installation for the alehouse.

Spinifex has gone from strength to strength since it began brewing in 2019, with the brewery earlier this month announcing it had partnered with the popular North Beach Deli overlooking the Indian Ocean, with the venue set for a makeover inside and out.

In June, Spinifex brewed its first batch of beer destined for the export market from its new Nambeelup production facility at WA’s $20m Food Innovation Precinct.

Co-founder and Yamatji/Noongar man Mick Little announced in May the company had partnered with Murdoch University on a climate change program focused on turning waste into profit.
