Hill City, SD — Prairie Berry Winery and Miner Brewing Company, two cherished establishments in South Dakota, will cease operations by the end of 2024. This announcement signals the conclusion of a significant chapter for the beloved local businesses, renowned for their distinctive wines and craft beers.
Matt Keck, owner and manager, reflected on the emotional journey, stating, “Starting the winery 25 years ago was incredibly hard, and winding it down will be equally as hard.” Founded by Sandi Vojta, who also serves as the winemaker and head brewer, these businesses have evolved into popular destinations for both locals and visitors. Vojta expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the support received from customers and staff throughout the years. “We started the winery in my dad’s 500-square-foot basement and created a South Dakota destination with Prairie Berry and Miner Brewing Company,” she recalled.
As they look back on the past quarter-century, Keck remarked, “We have 25 years of great memories thanks to our customers and staff.” Vojta echoed this sentiment, sharing, “From the beginning, our vision was to provide a memorable South Dakota experience that people couldn’t find elsewhere. We wanted our wines and beer to be more than a drink. We wanted them to be part of a beautiful day, time spent with a loved one, a place that was meaningful, or a memory they cherish. We’re so grateful for the customers who trusted us to share that with them and the staff who saw and supported that vision.”
Although Prairie Berry Winery and Miner Brewing Company will continue to operate until their inventory is depleted, no new products will be introduced. Keck noted, “Our kitchen, tasting room, and brewery are still open, and our hours are the same, so we invite people to come up and enjoy those experiences.” Wines will remain available for shipping and at current retailers while supplies last.
