Milwaukee, WI — MobCraft Beer, recognized as Milwaukee’s first crowd-sourced brewery, has announced its decision to sell its brewery, taprooms, and intellectual property. The announcement follows speculation about the brewery’s potential closure.
Co-founder and CEO Henry Schwartz initially declined to comment on the rumors earlier this week. However, on Wednesday, the brewery released a statement on its website outlining the situation.
“After 12 years in business and nine years in Walker’s Point, MobCraft Beer is moving forward with plans to sell its brewery and taproom,” the statement read. Schwartz reflected on the brewery’s journey, stating, “It’s been a wild ride these past 12 years. We’ve poured our heart and souls into the brewery and our community, but reached a point where we could no longer operate as a stand-alone organization.” He emphasized that the sale is aimed at preserving the brand and retaining staff.
MobCraft has been a pioneer in the craft beer industry, allowing customers to submit and vote on beer recipes. In addition to its crowd-sourced offerings, MobCraft has gained popularity with its flagship, seasonal, and limited-release beers, as well as its extensive Wild & Sour beer program.
As part of its transition, MobCraft will host a series of farewell events throughout November:
Nov. 4: Craft Beer Advent Calendars go on sale at 9 a.m.
Nov. 21: Last Milwaukee Mug Club Thursday with an exclusive party.
Nov. 23: Seventh Annual Milwaukee Stout Fest.
Nov. 27: Early Black Friday Sale for MobCraft favorites.
Nov. 27: Last Woodstock Mug Club Wednesday with an exclusive party.
Nov. 29: Black Friday celebration with a free pint for the first 100 guests and case and growler sales.
Nov. 29: Woodstock Stout Fest and Lighting of the Square.
Nov. 30: Final day open to the public as MobCraft, featuring a farewell party.
In their farewell message, the team expressed gratitude to vendors, community organizations, and customers, stating, “Without you, we are nothing. Many of you have become so much more than customers; you are our friends, and we will miss serving you.”
Schwartz, when contacted for further details, reiterated his inability to comment due to a non-disclosure agreement.
MobCraft opened its brewery and taproom at 505 S. 5th St. in 2016. Despite plans to expand to additional locations, including Denver and Waterford, only the Woodstock location remains operational after the closure of the Denver site in April 2023.
The brewery made headlines this past summer with the release of its (not so) Horrible City IPA, a response to comments made by former President Donald Trump about Milwaukee.
Further updates on the sale and future developments are expected in the coming weeks.
