The event, held last month in Denver, Colorado, featured 107 categories of beer and cider evaluated by 285 expert judges. Competing against brewers nationwide, Port City Brewing brought home a gold medal in the Robust Porter category for its signature Port City Porter. This award-winning beer boasts a silky texture and a honey-dark brown hue, with rich notes of coffee and chocolate that impressed the judges.

The Great American Beer Festival is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the industry. Its awards, distributed in gold, silver, and bronze tiers, are considered benchmarks of brewing excellence. As the festival notes, “These awards are among the most coveted in the industry and heralded by the winning brewers in their national advertising.”

To earn a medal at GABF, beers must meet specific quality standards:

Gold: Exemplifies the specified style with a world-class balance of taste, aroma, and appearance.

Silver: Displays excellent quality with minor deviations from style parameters while maintaining superb flavor, aroma, and appearance.

Bronze: A fine example of the style, with slight variations or minor imperfections.

Founded by Bill Butcher in 2011, Port City Brewing has amassed a number of accolades over the years, including a gold medal for its “Optimal Wit” at the 2024 World Beer Cup in Las Vegas.
