Normal, IL – The Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) has launched its own beer, “Roots Lager,” brewed in collaboration with Destihl Brewery of Normal, Illinois. The beer, which incorporates corn grown in Knox County, is part of the Farm Bureau’s ongoing efforts to showcase the value of Illinois agriculture.
“Roots Lager is a unique and fun way to highlight the benefits of being an Illinois Farm Bureau member,” said Brian Duncan, president of the IFB.
The lager features corn harvested from the Williamsfield-area farm of Les Potts, whose son, Matt Potts, is the CEO and founder of Destihl Brewery.
“For me, using corn from our family farm in this beer is a full-circle moment,” said Matt Potts. “It’s a special experience to see something grown on our land come to life in a product we can share with others.”
Roots Lager is a Munich Helles-Style Lager, described by Destihl as having a “radiant golden hue, delicate malt sweetness, and subtle hop presence” that creates a smooth, crisp finish with a gentle floral aroma. Potts noted that the corn imparts a unique flavor, enhancing the beer’s overall taste profile. “The corn adds a very pleasant flavor dimension,” he said, praising Destihl’s brewmaster for crafting a recipe that showcases the local agricultural product.
Destihl Brewery is known for its collaborations, including brewing the IWU Brew for Illinois Wesleyan University, Redbird Ale for Illinois State University, and Pink Moonlight for pop band Hanson.
Roots Lager will be available at the Destihl Brewery and Beer Hall, as well as at the Destihl Restaurant in Normal. It will also be sold at select retailers across the state.
