Overstory, the owner of the Tamar Valley wine brand Small Wonder, has announced the acquisition of a 24-hectare vineyard in the Coal River Valley, situated just 20 minutes from Hobart. This strategic move will enable the company to double its production in Tasmania over the next three years, paving the way for expanded offerings in both domestic and international markets.
The newly acquired Marengo Road vineyard, planted between 2017 and 2019, includes a range of cool-climate varietals, primarily Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with smaller plantings of Shiraz, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Viognier.
Paul McArdle, CEO of Overstory, expressed excitement about the acquisition: “We are thrilled to broaden our presence in Tasmania and take this next step in enhancing the quality and variety of our wine offerings.”
In line with its sustainability practices at its Tamar Valley location, Overstory plans to achieve organic certification for the Coal River Valley vineyard within the next three years, further solidifying its commitment to high-quality, environmentally responsible winemaking.
