From January 29 to February 1, the venue will partner with Lucky Prawn, an in-house Cantonese restaurant, to offer a special Lunar New Year banquet. The four-day event will showcase a curated menu featuring prawn toast, prawn wontons, blue swimmer crab noodles, steamed Murray cod, and snake beans. Guests seeking a more casual dining experience can enjoy a yum cha brunch on February 2, featuring classic dishes like sweet and sour pork, fried rice, and sang choi bao.

Nic Wong, director of Lucky Prawn, shared that the event was inspired by his personal family traditions, which have long centered around the vibrant energy of Chinatown. He fondly recalls childhood visits to iconic eateries like Golden Century and Superbowl, where lion dancers and firecrackers filled the streets. “Lunar New Year is a time for family gatherings, feasting, and honoring our ancestors. It’s when we come together to fold dumplings, share a meal, and celebrate our cultural heritage,” Wong said.

The Lunar New Year banquet, priced at $89 per person, highlights symbolic dishes that hold significance for the holiday. Wong emphasized the importance of food during this time, with items such as whole fish for prosperity, dumplings for wealth, noodles for longevity, and fruit for abundance.

With Lunar New Year celebrated across the globe, the series of events at Hawke’s Brewing provides an opportunity for the local community to engage in a festive and inclusive celebration of Chinese culture. Hosted at a venue that pays homage to Australia’s Chinese restaurants of the 1980s, this Lunar New Year celebration brings together the joy of food, family, and tradition.
