March 10, 2025 – Croatian wine has received a significant boost on the international stage, with Vina Belje securing its most successful result ever at a global competition. The company’s remarkable achievements were recognized at the prestigious “Mundus Vini – Spring Tasting,” one of the first major global wine competitions of the year.
Vina Belje made history by winning an impressive total of six gold medals and five silver medals at the event, marking the winery’s best performance in a single competition to date. This success highlights the company’s commitment to producing top-quality Croatian wines and reinforces its reputation as a leader in the industry.
Among the standout winners were Vina Belje’s Graševina Select and Graševina Premium from the 2024 vintage, as well as some of the winery’s most celebrated red wines, including the premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot, and Goldberg Red and Ruby.
Damir Leko, President of Vina Belje’s Management Board, attributed the company’s success to a combination of expertise, quality control, and dedication to the craft of winemaking. He emphasized the importance of the winery’s 500 hectares of vineyards, cutting-edge production technology, and a highly skilled team committed to producing exceptional wines.
“With over 500 hectares of vineyards, we’re one of Croatia’s leading producers of high-quality wines. This quality is ensured by our own vineyards, modern production technology, and our team’s expertise in both the vineyard and winery. I’m extremely proud that this year’s medals continue the winning streak we started last year, when we received over 40 gold medals,” said Leko.
Suzana Zovko, Director of Vina Belje, also expressed her pride in the winery’s achievements, particularly the recognition of Graševina, a variety that dominates the vineyards. She shared her excitement over the historic gold medal win for Graševina, which had never been awarded internationally before.
“For over twenty years, my team and I have remained committed to producing wine, and this is the first time we’ve received an international gold medal for Graševina Select, or as we used to call it, quality Graševina. We feel as though we’ve won an Olympic gold medal,” Zovko said, reflecting on the extraordinary accomplishment.
Vina Belje’s success underscores the winery’s continued prominence as a key representative of Croatian wine on the global stage.
