Santa Fe, New Mexico, is set to host an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 5,000 aficionados of the state’s most cherished crop – chile, as part of the 32nd annual Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta. This eagerly anticipated event, commencing on Wednesday, brings together master sommeliers who expertly pair wines with delectable dishes showcasing the iconic New Mexican chile.
The popularity of the fiesta has been nothing short of remarkable, with many of its signature events selling out within hours of tickets going on sale back in July. However, there’s still an opportunity to secure tickets for several food and wine seminars, as well as other engaging events.
Mary Hallahan, the Executive Director of the festival, emphasized that the remaining tickets for certain signature events scheduled for Friday and Sunday would be in high demand. Notably, Chile Friday at Fort Marcy Park, introduced to the fiesta just last year, had already reached full capacity by Tuesday.
Chile Friday distinguishes itself from other events during the five-day celebration by offering an assortment of margaritas and beer in addition to the traditional wine and Champagne offerings. Mary Hallahan explained, “We always stuck to wine. It’s sort of been the fabric of the fiesta, but we recognize that someone may want a beer or margarita, so we do samples of those during the Friday event. We’ve really focused on New Mexico foods, so all your favorite chile dishes are there from restaurants like Maria’s New Mexican Kitchen, the Plaza Cafe, and Posas Tamale Factory and Restaurant. And, of course, we’ll have live music to enhance the experience.”
The Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta stands as a vibrant celebration of New Mexico’s rich culinary heritage and its deep connection to chile, drawing not only locals but also visitors eager to savor the unique flavors and pairings that make this event a culinary delight.
