The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath is teaming up with Brunswick-based Flight Deck Brewing to launch a beer and pizza garden at the museum’s waterfront this summer. The seasonal venture, running from June to September, aims to attract new visitors and build a lasting partnership between the two organizations.
Nate Wildes, managing partner of Flight Deck Brewing, shared the vision behind the initiative, emphasizing the long-term potential for the museum to offer food and beverage services in a sustainable way. “What we want to test out this summer is to build the product next to the partnership,” Wildes explained.
To support the new beer and pizza garden, the museum is adding three new structures to its grounds: a wooden pavilion, a large event tent, and a variety of seating options along the picturesque waterfront. Flight Deck Brewing is also making significant investments, including new equipment and the hiring of eight to twelve employees to help operate the second location.
The garden will offer families a relaxing environment to enjoy wood-fired pizzas, craft beer, wine, and scenic views of the Kennebec River. The setting will feature ambient lighting, informative signage, and easy access to the museum’s exhibits and cruises.
Chris Timm, the executive director of Maine Maritime Museum, explained that the addition of the beer and pizza garden would enhance visitors’ experiences, allowing them to unwind and enjoy a meal by the riverfront. “We want visitors and members to make the most of their time here, and that means having a place to relax, enjoy a great meal and take in the riverfront,” Timm said.
The new pavilion is also part of a larger update to the museum’s historic Percy and Small Shipyard, which is undergoing a major renovation to offer a more interactive and engaging experience for visitors.
While the beer and pizza garden is currently planned for one summer season, Wildes noted that Flight Deck Brewing would assess the success of the project at the end of the summer and determine whether to extend their commitment.
Flight Deck Brewing has had a longstanding relationship with the museum, having participated in its annual beer festival since its inception in 2017. According to Amanda Pleau, the museum’s marketing and communications manager, this new partnership represents a significant expansion of the food and beverage offerings. “We have had food service in the past, but this is something bigger and better than we ever had previously, and we are very excited about it,” Pleau said.
