The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) has unveiled its 2024 global report, drawing on data from over 180 producing and consuming countries. The comprehensive statistics provide a detailed snapshot of the wine sector, shedding light on the impact of climate change, shifting consumer preferences, and geopolitical uncertainties.
According to John Barker, Director General of the OIV, these challenges pose significant adaptation hurdles for the wine industry. However, he emphasized that overcoming these obstacles could open up new opportunities for growth and innovation.
“By collaborating to address climate change and positioning wine as a leader in sustainability, we can ensure the sector’s future success. Additionally, investing in research to understand emerging consumer demographics and reinforcing our commitment to multilateralism and global trade will pave the way forward for the industry,” Barker said.
The OIV, which serves as the global reference point for vine and wine, unites 51 countries in a collective effort to foster cooperation, harmonization, and the sharing of knowledge on the key challenges and opportunities facing the industry.
