For the second consecutive year, Georgia is playing host to the Wine Days festival, a grand celebration of the nation’s rich winemaking tradition across 23 municipalities. The event, which runs from October 7 to October 15, underscores the profound historical and cultural significance of winemaking in Georgia, as reported by Azernews, citing Agenda.
Initiated under the patronage of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the festival has transformed into a prominent platform where the essence of the country’s winemaking heritage is showcased. This vibrant cultural extravaganza features a delightful array of traditional dishes, an extensive selection of wines from both large and boutique wineries, and an assortment of other alcoholic beverages.
Spanning diverse regions of the nation, the Wine Days festival offers a wide range of attractions, including wine tastings, food courts, entertaining zones, and bustling fair events. The festival’s significance goes beyond merriment and gastronomy, aiming to boost awareness of Georgian wine and foster the nation’s burgeoning tourism sector, as articulated by Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili during her opening speech in the town of Gurjaani, which forms part of the ongoing festival.
Kvrivishvili enthusiastically noted that festival attendees have the privilege to savor unique Georgian wines crafted by more than 340 local winemakers. The significance of the event extends even further, as Gurjaani recently welcomed prominent representatives from renowned international media outlets, including Forbes, Vinorandum, Vince Magazine, and others hailing from Europe and the United States. Their presence signifies the growing interest in Georgia’s tourism potential and the “uniqueness” of the country’s wine industry.
Maia Omiadze, the Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, added that the Wine Days festival plays a pivotal role in advancing both international and local tourism. She highlighted the continuous support offered by GNTA in promoting such festivals, underlining the positive impact they have on the nation’s thriving tourism sector.
