Laurent-Perrier Introduces Heritage Champagne as “Petit Siècle”

by Kaia

Laurent-Perrier has unveiled its latest addition to the Champagne market with Heritage, positioned as a bridge between its entry-level non-vintage offering, La Cuvée (£45), and its prestigious Grand Siècle (£200). Priced at £75, Heritage embodies the essence of a “second wine of Grand Siècle,” crafted from a Chardonnay-dominant blend (55%) complemented by Pinot Noir, incorporating a unique composition of four vintages—distinguishing it from Grand Siècle, which typically blends three.

At the launch event held at 67 Pall Mall, Groupe Laurent-Perrier chairman Stéphane Dalyac referred to Heritage as “Petit Siècle,” echoing wine writer Anthony Rose’s sentiments. Emphasizing its craftsmanship akin to the maison’s top-tier cuvée, Heritage promises a refined experience with its non-oxidative winemaking approach and meticulous use of reserve wines.

Adam Guy, managing director at Laurent-Perrier UK, outlined Heritage’s strategic role in the brand’s portfolio, catering to discerning consumers seeking a step up from La Cuvée but not yet ready for Grand Siècle’s pinnacle. He underscored its potential as a versatile offering for both restaurant placements and retail settings.

Michel Fauconnet, cellar master at Laurent-Perrier, discussed the meticulous process behind Heritage, which began conceptualizing in 2012 and was realized with the 2014 vintage. The inaugural blend showcases wines from 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2019, sourced from 40 crus in Champagne, including grands crus. Fauconnet highlighted the blend’s complexity, facilitated by Champagne’s reserve wine system, which enables precise blending choices and stylistic consistency.

Heritage, disgorged in December 2023 with a dosage of 6g/l and aged on lees for four years, sets the stage for future releases that will vary in vintage composition, a departure from Grand Siècle’s fixed three-vintage blend. Laurent-Perrier’s introduction of Heritage underscores its commitment to innovation and quality within the esteemed Champagne category, appealing to enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
