Bud Light Decline Continues

Bud Light’s tumultuous period shows no sign of abating following its brief yet costly partnership with Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender influencer, whose image was featured on a Bud Light can to mark her “365 Days of Girlhood.”

The partnership announcement on April 1, 2023, has since led to significant sales declines for the brand, despite Anheuser-Busch’s efforts to mitigate the backlash. Bud Light, once the nation’s top-selling beer, has now fallen to the third spot.

According to Nielsen IQ data analyzed by the Bump Williams consulting firm and reported by WSJ, Modelo Especial, brewed and imported by Constellation Brands based in White Plains, NY, now holds the number one position, capturing 9.7% of beer dollar sales in U.S. stores for the four weeks ending July 6.

Anheuser-Busch’s Michelob Ultra secured second place with 7.3% of beer dollar sales nationwide. Bud Light, now in third place, commanded 6.5% of beer dollar sales during the same period, as reported by the NY Post.
