In a significant move for Australia’s wine industry, Australian Grape & Wine CEO Lee McLean has expressed optimism following the appointment of five new directors to the Wine Australia Board. The announcement was made on Saturday by Hon Julie Collins MP, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, with the new directors set to commence their three-year terms today.
The board, led by Chair Dr. Michele Allan AO, will now include Dr. Angeline Achariya (Victoria), Roslyn Baker (Queensland), Andrew Kay (South Australia), Elizabeth Riley (New South Wales), and Peta Slack-Smith (Victoria). They replace outgoing members Catherine Oates, Catherine Cooper, Frances-Anne Keeler, Mitchell Taylor, Justin Brown, and John Lloyd.
McLean praised the contributions of the departing directors during a transformative period and emphasized the importance of the new board’s collaboration with Australian Grape & Wine. He stated, “It is essential that the new Board works closely to strengthen and encourage profitable, resilient, and sustainable winegrape and wine businesses, ensuring that Australian wine is well placed to overcome the current challenges and thrive on both the domestic and international stage.”
