LINCOLN – HopCat, a popular brewpub located at Sixth and P Streets, experiences its highest traffic on game days when the Nebraska Cornhuskers play at Memorial Stadium. General Manager Chelsey Hieronymus noted that these events are crucial for the establishment’s success.
However, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s proposal to sell alcohol at Memorial Stadium may change the dynamics of local game day experiences. “Game days are our bread and butter,” Hieronymus said, highlighting the impact of current regulations that restrict alcohol consumption within the stadium.
Hieronymus observed that many fans often leave games early, particularly if the teams are not performing well, in search of a place to sit down and enjoy a drink. “They’ve been standing in the hot or cold, and want to relax,” she explained.
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on October 4 regarding the approval of alcohol sales at all athletic events. If approved, sales are expected to commence next fall at both Memorial Stadium and the Devaney Center.
