In a significant policy shift, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted 7-1 on Friday in Kearney to allow alcohol sales at all university athletic events. Regent Kathy Wilmot of Beaver City was the sole dissenting voice in the decision.
This new measure paves the way for beer sales to commence at Nebraska football and volleyball games next season, along with other athletic events across the university system, including those at Nebraska-Omaha and Nebraska-Kearney, provided their administrations opt in.
Currently, alcohol sales are already in place at Pinnacle Bank Arena, home to Husker basketball, which is managed by the City of Lincoln. Additionally, beer is available at NU baseball games and Nebraska-Omaha hockey matches.
To accommodate this policy change, Memorial Stadium is set to be equipped with the necessary infrastructure for alcohol sales ahead of the upcoming football season. This move is anticipated to provide a considerable economic boost to the university. Notably, Memorial Stadium was the only Big Ten football venue that had not previously authorized alcohol sales.
