A controversial comment on a receipt issued by an employee at The Cornish Arms in Brunswick, Victoria has ignited a discussion online. The contentious term “bogan,” akin to the UK’s “chav” or the American “hillbilly,” was used in the receipt note.
As anticipated, the comment garnered attention and generated debates across social media platforms. Reddit users chimed in, with some asserting that wine ought to be consumed at temperatures between 10-13 degrees Celsius, rather than the perceived “sweltering” 25-35 degrees often served in the region, as pointed out by a user.
Another user drew an analogy between the impact of wine temperature on its flavor and a similar phenomenon observed with cheese. Additionally, an opinion was voiced asserting that regardless of expectations or appropriateness, patrons who pay for a service should receive it according to their personal preferences.
The receipt’s note prompted contrasting reactions, with criticism labeling it as devoid of “basic human respect” and amateurish. On the other hand, some found it exceptionally amusing, hailing the staff member responsible as a “legend.”
The management of The Cornish Arms responded to inquiries from Australia’s 7News, stating, “We have addressed the matter with our staff and reiterated their workplace obligations. The junior staff member involved exhibited sincere remorse upon realizing that the comment would be printed on the customer’s receipt.”
