Family-owned chocolate manufacturer The Cocoa Group is expanding its offerings into the beverage market with the launch of a new wine brand, Gria, just in time for summer. Gria’s debut features two vibrant products: a red and white sangria spritz designed to capture the essence of the warmer months.
Gria reimagines traditional sangria by combining premium Victorian wines with a refreshing spritz and a blend of fruit and spice flavors. The White Gria is crafted from a lightly sparkling white wine sourced from Victoria, featuring zesty citrus notes of orange, lemon, and lime, complemented by a hint of ginger and a splash of white rum for a tropical finish. In contrast, the Red Gria is made from a lightly sparkling red wine infused with warm spices, blood orange, and cherry brandy.
The innovative blends were created by Peter Wilson, a winemaker-turned-chocolatier renowned for producing award-winning wines for Whitebox Wines and Yarra Yering. Wilson transitioned to the art of chocolate-making in the 1990s, and today, his children, Jeremy and Philippa Kennedy-Wilson, continue the family’s legacy in the chocolate industry.
Jeremy Kennedy-Wilson expressed enthusiasm for the new venture, stating that Gria represents an exciting new chapter for The Cocoa Group. “Creating Gria has been a thrilling journey for the team, combining our passion and experience in crafting innovative flavors and new products,” he said. “Needless to say, Gria is going to make this summer exceptional. We’re thrilled to launch this vibrant, fizzy, and delicious new wine brand and can’t wait to share it with Australia.”
Gria is now available at independent retailers for a recommended retail price of $25, as well as online at griaspritz.com.au.
