Marquette University Athletics has announced a partnership with Third Space Brewing to introduce a new craft beer called Marquette Golden Ale. This marks the first officially licensed and co-branded beer for the Golden Eagles.
The Marquette Golden Ale, which boasts an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 4.9 percent, will be available at all Marquette home games held at Fiserv Forum, the Al McGuire Center, and Valley Fields, starting November 4. Additionally, fans can find the beer at retail locations across southern Wisconsin where Third Space products are sold, beginning next week.
“We aimed to create an easy-drinking, refreshing Golden Ale,” said Kevin Wright, co-founder and brewmaster of Third Space Brewing. “The malt bill features our house pilsner malt, complemented by Vienna malt for soft honey and bread notes. Flaked corn adds a touch of sweetness, balancing the dry and crisp finish, while Bravo hops from the Pacific Northwest impart a hint of citrus.”
Notably, the Marquette Golden Ale’s recipe differs from the 77 Golden Ale created last year by Marquette students in collaboration with local breweries Gathering Place, Broken Bat, and Good City.
“We’re extremely excited to team up with Marquette as its Official Craft Beer Partner,” stated Andy Gehl, co-founder and president of Third Space Brewing. “With our brewery located near the Marquette campus, we look forward to establishing Third Space Brewing as the neighborhood brewery for Marquette fans, enhancing their experience on game days and beyond.”
The collaboration was facilitated by Learfield’s Marquette Sports Properties, which serves as Marquette’s exclusive trademark licensing agent. The brewery, situated at 1505 W. St. Paul Ave., has been designated the “Official Craft Beer Partner of the Golden Eagles and Marquette Athletics.”
“This partnership offers a fantastic opportunity to work closely with a valued neighbor to create a unique product for the Marquette community,” commented Bill Scholl, Vice President and Director of Athletics at Marquette. “We are eager to see the release of Marquette Golden Ale and to further enrich the gameday experience for our Golden Eagle fans.”
This partnership may have influenced the decision of Marquette’s student-led Blue & Gold Brewing to forgo collaboration with Good City, Gathering Place, and Broken Bat for a new project. The latter two recently launched their own tribute beer to the MU basketball team called Ring Out, Ahoya.
Brad Harrison, general manager of Marquette Sports Properties, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring these two neighbors together to create a great-tasting craft beer for our wonderful Marquette fans and community. We appreciate Third Space’s engagement with Blue & Gold Brewing to continue providing innovative learning experiences for students involved in the program.”
