The forthcoming 23rd of August will herald the launch of the first annual Hazy IPA Day, a celebration dedicated to the beloved craft beer style. Orchestrated by California’s Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., this event is poised to commemorate the distinctive brew that gained prominence in New England during the early 2000s before the subsequent “haze craze” migrated to the West Coast of the United States.
Lesley Albright, Vice President of Marketing at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., expounded on the significance of the occasion, expressing, “Hazy IPA has rapidly become one of the most popular beer styles, and we felt it was time to set aside a day to celebrate its indelible mark on the craft beer world.”
The Hazy IPA style draws inspiration from both India Pale Ales (IPAs) and American IPAs. However, Hazy IPAs exhibit a sweeter and more accessible profile compared to traditional American IPAs, which achieve clarity through filtration. By virtue of being unfiltered, Hazy IPAs often retain distinct flavor notes. Renowned for their hop-forward pine and vividly resinous taste as well as their characteristic cloudy appearance, these brews have carved a unique niche in the beer landscape.
Sierra Nevada Brewing aims to leverage this celebratory occasion to provide additional support for their popular Hazy IPA known as “Hazy Little Things.” Following this inaugural event, the tradition of marking Hazy IPA Day will be upheld annually on the third Thursday of every August, further cementing its place as an anticipated annual event for enthusiasts of this dynamic craft beer style.
