Penticton’s breweries may soon find themselves vying for international recognition as registration opens for the 2025 World Beer Cup. This prestigious competition, renowned for attracting approximately 9,000 entries from around 50 countries annually, is now accepting submissions from breweries and cideries around the world.
The registration window, open from November 12 to December 13, invites breweries to submit entries across a range of categories. Organized by the Colorado-based Brewers Association, the World Beer Cup has celebrated the craft of brewing since its inception in 1996.
“The World Beer Cup has stood as a pillar of the global brewing community since 1996, bringing together the craft, dedication, and ingenuity that define the best beers worldwide,” said Chris Williams, competition director. “As we approach the 2025 competition, I’m eager for another year of remarkable submissions from breweries, and now cideries, from all over the world. This year’s event promises to be unforgettable — get ready to witness global brewing at its finest.”
With its title as Canada’s Craft Beer Capital, as designated by travel guide Lonely Planet, Penticton’s local brewers may gain a place on the world stage. The city currently hosts eight breweries: Tin Whistle, Cannery, Neighbourhood, Barley Mill, Yellow Dog, Slackwater, Abandoned Rail, and Highway 97.
The World Beer Cup aims to “raise consumer awareness of diverse beer styles and flavor profiles while celebrating excellence in brewing worldwide,” according to a press release. Winners will be announced in May during an award ceremony at the Indiana Convention Centre in Indianapolis.
