Singapore’s burgeoning affinity for Champagne is reaching new heights, prompting sommelier Yang Yeo Xi to introduce a distinctive Champagne-focused establishment named “Convivial,” capitalizing on the country’s escalating demand for the effervescent beverage.
With staggering statistics provided by Comité Champagne, Singapore has witnessed a remarkable surge in Champagne consumption. Exports to the city-state surged by an impressive 52.69% in 2022, amounting to 1,444,403 bottles. This upswing translated to over €37 million, marking a substantial 47.01% growth compared to 2021.
Seizing the opportunity, seasoned sommelier Yang Yeo Xi is poised to launch Convivial, a refined Champagne bar catering to Singapore’s refined tastes.
Scheduled for its grand opening in late August, Convivial is set to present an array of Champagne varieties, ranging from single-varietal to multi-vintage and vintage selections, featuring esteemed labels like Salon and Krug.
In addition to curating a collection of 200 Champagnes, Yeo Xi’s meticulously crafted wine list encompasses a spectrum of sparkling and still wines. “Every wine has a story with bubbles,” remarks Yeo Xi, who has thoughtfully incorporated ciders and craft beers into the diverse offerings.
Having previously earned acclaim at Singapore’s renowned wine bar, Park 90, and clinching victory in the Singapore National Sommelier Competition 2022, Yeo Xi has long harbored aspirations of establishing his own venture. Now, with the backing of two silent investors, he is embarking on his inaugural entrepreneurial journey.
Nestled in the vibrant dining precinct of Clarke Quay, the novel 32-seater establishment is nearing completion of its renovations. Notably, the decor is inspired by Champagne’s iconic crayères, lending a touch of authenticity to the ambiance.
