Whatcom County Breweries Shine at Washington Beer Awards

BELLINGHAM, WA – Several breweries from Whatcom County earned top honors at the 11th annual Washington Beer Awards, held on November 4, 2024. The prestigious competition, hosted by the Washington Beer Commission and the Washington Brewers Guild, saw over 1,200 beers from 170 breweries across the state compete in a blind tasting judged by a panel of trained experts.

Among the big winners was Larrabee Lager Company, which was named Small Brewery of the Year. The Bellingham-based brewery, which opened its doors last year on Meridian Street, also earned three additional awards for its German-style beers, further cementing its rising reputation in the local craft beer scene.

Other standout performances came from Kulshan Brewing, which took home an impressive seven awards, including four gold medals. Meanwhile, Beach Cat Brewing from Birch Bay claimed three awards for its brews.

Bellingham’s Wander Brewing, Stemma Brewing, and Boundary Bay Brewery were also recognized, alongside FrinGe Brewing from Ferndale, as part of a growing list of local breweries making their mark in the state’s craft beer landscape. The success of these breweries highlights the region’s vibrant and diverse beer culture, drawing attention from both local and statewide beer enthusiasts.
