River North Brewery has earned top honors at the prestigious Brussels Beer Challenge, taking home the coveted title of Best American Beer for 2024. This marks the fourth consecutive year the Denver-based brewery has medaled in the competition, a significant achievement in the international brewing community.
The brewery’s standout beers at this year’s event included Nightmare Fuel, which secured a silver medal in the coffee beer category, and Midnight Hike, which earned silver in the chocolate beer category. Both beers have now medaled for three consecutive years. In addition to these accolades, River North’s Uptown Squirrel was awarded gold in the porter category, contributing to the brewery’s overall success.
Out of 1,705 beers from 500 breweries across 39 countries, only 19 beers from the United States received medals. River North’s three medals, including the prestigious Best American Beer title, highlight the brewery’s continued excellence and innovation on the global stage.
Founder Matt Hess shared that the brewery values the constructive feedback it receives from judges at international competitions. “Every time we enter an event like this, we get insights from experienced judges with diverse backgrounds, and we take that feedback seriously,” Hess told Westword. “It helps us improve our beers and continue pushing our craft forward.”
Hess also credited the brewery’s success to its talented team, particularly head brewer Matt Malloy. “Matt Malloy is as good as they get,” Hess said, emphasizing the importance of the team’s dedication to quality and continuous improvement, which has helped build River North’s loyal following over the years.
