SABECO Launches Cutting-Edge Brewery Research Centre to Drive Innovation and Quality

by Kaia

Ho Chi Minh City – In a bid to advance innovation and strengthen the Vietnamese brewing industry, Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO) has unveiled a fully automated research centre at the Nguyen Chi Thanh Brewery in Ho Chi Minh City, the historic birthplace of Bia Saigon in 1875. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to foster the development of new beer recipes and brewing techniques, supporting the 26 breweries under SABECO’s umbrella across the nation.

The initiative comes after years of efforts by SABECO to establish a dedicated space for testing and perfecting new products. Previously, brewers faced significant challenges and costs when testing innovations at existing facilities, a process that often hindered young engineers from gaining confidence in their work.

Now, the new centre provides a fully automated environment, minimizing human intervention and reducing the potential for errors during the production process. This innovative setup allows brewers to conduct small-scale tests, ensuring consistency and quality before scaling up production at SABECO’s larger facilities.

“SABECO’s production team has already found the key to improving quality,” said Lam Du An, deputy general director of SABECO in charge of Technology and Production. “We have received over 50 awards in the past five years, including five for product quality. This new centre will allow us to test new products more effectively and create innovative beer recipes without the logistical and financial challenges of large-scale production.”

The centre’s design is notable not only for its cutting-edge technology but also for its cost-effectiveness. By leveraging domestic supply chains, SABECO was able to keep the investment costs significantly lower compared to other similar-scale centres globally. The facility’s advanced capabilities will allow engineers to fine-tune beer production processes, particularly in the critical area of yeast cultivation, which plays a vital role in creating the distinctive flavours that define SABECO’s products.

With over a century of brewing expertise, SABECO has long been known for producing high-quality beers that balance flavour, freshness, and aroma. The new centre represents the next step in SABECO’s commitment to enhancing these qualities while supporting the development of young talent in the brewing industry. An added benefit of the facility is its role as a learning environment for young engineers, who can now gain hands-on experience and confidence in a professional setting.

In its quest to perfect brewing technology, SABECO has also invested in training programs abroad. Many of its technical staff have attended brew master courses in Germany, gaining knowledge of the latest brewing practices and technologies. The new research centre was developed in collaboration with both domestic and international partners, incorporating some of the world’s most advanced brewing technologies.

As SABECO continues to expand its production capabilities and develop new products, the centre will serve as a vital tool for maintaining consistent quality across its operations. The goal is not only to meet domestic demand but also to position Vietnamese beers on the global stage.

The launch of the research centre marks a new era for SABECO, one focused on innovation, quality control, and the development of homegrown expertise in the brewing industry. The company aims to maintain its leadership in the market and contribute to the global reputation of Vietnamese beverages.
