Melbourne’s beloved Boilermaker House, a CBD bar renowned for its celebration of craft beer and whisky, will close its doors for good on Monday, December 30. The closure follows the landlord’s decision to redevelop the site and not renew the lease held by the Speakeasy Group, which operates the venue.
Since opening in 2015, Boilermaker House has been a staple for whisky enthusiasts, craft beer lovers, and city workers, offering a laid-back ambiance centered around the boilermaker—a traditional pairing of a whisky shot and beer chaser. Known for its impressive selection of charcuterie and cheese boards, the venue became a go-to spot for those seeking quality pairings with their drinks.
However, with the end of the lease, the bar’s iconic collection of over 700 whisky bottles will be packed up, marking the end of an era for the Melbourne nightlife scene.
Greg Sanderson, the owner and operator of Boilermaker House, expressed deep gratitude and sorrow in a statement.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built over these years,” Sanderson said. “Parting ways with a place that has meant so much to us—and to so many others—is incredibly difficult. We’re deeply grateful to our amazing team, whose passion and dedication have been the heart of Boilermaker House. And to our guests, especially those who’ve been with us since the beginning—we can’t thank you enough.”
Fans of the venue have until the end of December to enjoy one final boilermaker or savor their favorite drams before the beloved CBD haunt bids farewell.
