Maintaining its longstanding supremacy, Tito’s Handmade Vodka retained its position as the best-selling spirit at Virginia’s state-managed liquor outlets throughout the fiscal year 2023.
The annual report from the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) detailing the most popular spirits unveils that Tito’s achieved an impressive $72 million in sales during FY23, marking an increase of $5.1 million in comparison to FY22.
In succession to Tito’s, Hennessy VS cognac secured the second spot with sales amounting to $44 million. Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 whiskey followed closely with $30.1 million in sales. Patron Silver tequila and Jim Beam straight bourbon whiskey rounded out the top five with sales figures of $2.86 million and $24 million, respectively.
Among the leading categories at ABC stores, vodka reigned supreme, followed by tequila, which triumphed over straight bourbon whiskey to attain second place, trailed by cordials and rum.
Tequila’s share of total spirits sales reached 13.7%, marking an impressive 18.4% surge from the preceding fiscal year.
Conversely, the most notable declines in sales were witnessed in the cognac and Armagnac categories, experiencing a downturn of 14.6% from the previous year, while Canadian whiskey experienced a 10% decrease.
Virginia proudly showcases an array of locally distilled spirits, boasting nearly 300 Virginia-distilled options. The sales of Virginia spirits escalated to $24.1 million in FY23, encompassing a sale volume exceeding one million bottles.
The standout top performers in this category included Bowman Brothers Virginia straight bourbon, Cirrus Vodka, and Virginia Highlands War Horn Whiskey.
