Glenfiddich has introduced Grand Château, a limited-edition single malt whisky that marries the heritage of the Scottish distillery with the prestigious winemaking tradition of Bordeaux. The latest addition to the brand’s renowned Grand Series, Grand Château is a 31-year-old whisky that has undergone a groundbreaking maturation process, featuring a unique finish in red wine casks sourced from the Bordeaux region—a first for Glenfiddich.
This exceptional whisky begins its journey in American oak barrels, where it matures for 22 years. Afterward, it spends an additional nine years in Bordeaux wine casks, a process that imparts a rich and complex flavor profile. The influence of the wine casks introduces vibrant fruity notes, complemented by deep oak undertones, adding a new dimension to Glenfiddich’s signature style.
Claudia Falcone, Glenfiddich’s Global Brand Director, highlighted the brand’s commitment to innovation: “Grand Château extends Glenfiddich’s ultra-premium portfolio by experimenting with unique flavor combinations and extended maturation. This release showcases our passion for blending diverse cultures and redefining luxury in the whisky world.”
Grand Château features a distinctive reddish hue and an intricate tasting experience. The nose opens with warm vanilla and floral cassis aromas, accompanied by subtle hints of dried fruit. On the palate, the whisky reveals layers of caramelized cherries, apples, toasted oak, and warm spice, leading to a long and elegant finish.
This release joins Glenfiddich’s prestigious Grand Series, which includes other exclusive expressions such as Grand Yozakura, Grande Couronne, and Grand Cru. Each whisky in the series represents a distinctive exploration of maturation, with finishes in rare casks such as Awamori, French Cognac, and Sherry Palo Cortado barrels.
Priced at $2,600, Grand Château underscores Glenfiddich’s ongoing commitment to crafting exceptional, boundary-pushing whiskies that combine traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques.
