Heineken Discontinues Popular “Superior” Beer After Two Years

by Kaia

Heineken Silver, a beer that won fans over for its “extra-refreshing” taste, has been discontinued in the UK just two years after its launch. The premium lager, which was introduced in 2022, was praised by many drinkers as a superior alternative to the original Heineken beer.

The 4% ABV lager, which was marketed as being lagered at -1°C for a “crisp flavour and subtle finish,” quickly gained popularity in pubs and supermarkets. Fans of the drink often described it as having a more refreshing taste compared to the original Heineken, with some reviewers even calling it “superior.”

One customer on Tesco’s website said, “Don’t normally like Heineken but this was surprisingly nice! Will buy again.” Another wrote, “Tried this for the first time after being offered it as part of a promotion, and I’ll definitely be buying it again. Lovely crisp, refreshing taste, great for a summer day.” A third reviewer commented, “Tastes a little superior to normal Heineken. Would buy again.”

Despite the positive feedback, Heineken announced that it would be discontinuing Silver as part of a strategic shift in its product lineup. A company spokesperson revealed the decision was made after “careful consideration of market conditions,” with plans to focus on expanding its flagship Heineken Original and its alcohol-free Heineken 0.0 in 2025.

“We are substantially increasing our investment in Heineken Original and Heineken 0.0 to better serve the needs of our customers and consumers moving forward,” the spokesperson told The Sun.

The move has disappointed many loyal fans. One drinker expressed their frustration on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Heineken Silver being discontinued, what a s**t start to the night. Underrated bevvy.”

As Heineken shifts its focus, fans of Heineken Silver will have to turn to other options in the company’s diverse beer range, which includes brands like Birra Moretti, Amstel, Cruzcampo, Desperados, and Tiger.
