Olympia Fields, IL – Since its founding in 2017, Vintrendi Wine Company has carved a niche for itself in the competitive world of winemaking, blending creativity with a deep commitment to community. The winery, located in Olympia Fields, was born out of Rick Nesbitt’s passion for both the wine industry and his local roots.
Nesbitt, who initially worked as a liquor distributor, recognized early on that he wanted to do more than distribute wines; he wanted to create them. The idea to transition from distribution to production was sparked by his desire to offer wines that resonated with the people and culture of the South Suburbs. After closing his distribution company, Nesbitt focused on building Vintrendi, a boutique winery that would offer both unique products and an immersive experience for visitors.
Today, Vintrendi Wine Company operates out of a brick-and-mortar location where patrons can tour the production facility, sample wines, and enjoy live music in a welcoming atmosphere. The winery was also featured in Enjoy Illinois’ 2024 Illinois Made Holiday Gift Guide, a distinction that highlights artisanal businesses across the state.
What sets Vintrendi apart from larger commercial wineries is its focus on artisanal and flavored wines. While many wineries rely on well-known varietals like Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Merlot, Nesbitt’s vision includes a variety of more eclectic offerings. “We strive to bring forward niche, artisanal wines that you won’t find on the bottom shelves of big-box stores,” Nesbitt explained. “Our goal is to highlight wines that reflect the diversity of the global wine scene.”
Among these distinctive offerings are the popular Blackberry Wine and Vintrendi Winter Wine. The Blackberry Wine, a concord grape infused with blackberry flavors, has become one of the winery’s top sellers, thanks to its unique taste and eye-catching packaging. The Vintrendi Winter Wine, inspired by traditional German and Swedish mulled wines, is a sweet, spiced offering perfect for the cold months. Served hot with flavors like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and orange, this seasonal treat often includes brandy for an added kick.
Nesbitt’s business philosophy centers around being nimble, responding to market trends, and creating innovative products that stand out. “We don’t just want to make wine; we want to craft experiences,” he said, noting that family and community are integral to the winery’s identity. As an African American-owned business, Vintrendi Wine Company also places a significant emphasis on being a positive force in the local economy.
In addition to its growing customer base, Vintrendi has garnered support from the Illinois Made program, a state initiative designed to promote local artisans. Nesbitt learned about the program from the Village of Park Forest’s Economic Development Manager, and after applying, the winery was accepted. He encourages other small business owners to get involved, as the program offers valuable visibility and opportunities for growth.
Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many visitors praising the winery’s relaxed atmosphere and the unique experience of enjoying wine made on-site. “It’s not your average bar or nightclub,” Nesbitt said. “People feel at home here, and that’s exactly what we want—an experience that’s warm, welcoming, and memorable.”
Looking ahead, Vintrendi will host a Holiday Party on December 28th, continuing its tradition of live music and community engagement. The winery also features live performances throughout the week, further enhancing its role as a cultural hub in the South Suburbs.
