SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS — As many Illinois residents embark on their Dry January resolutions, the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild is encouraging beer enthusiasts to think ahead and stock their fridges with locally brewed beer for the months to come.
In line with this, the guild is hosting its third annual “My Illinois Beer Fridge” competition, which rewards participants with weekly prizes for purchasing beer from Illinois-based breweries. The contest aims to promote local craft beer and bolster the state’s small, independent breweries.
Ray Stout, Executive Director of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses, particularly as many small breweries across the country face financial challenges.
“People often don’t realize that these breweries are small, independent businesses,” Stout explained. “Unfortunately, we’re seeing closures of breweries and small businesses nationwide, and Illinois is no exception. That’s why it’s vital for us to invest in these local businesses, ensuring that the money spent stays within our communities.”
Stout also noted that the contest has garnered hundreds of entries in previous years, and this year’s event is expected to be no different. For those observing Dry January, many participating breweries will also offer non-alcoholic options, allowing everyone to take part in the festivities while still supporting local enterprises.
