by Kaia

The Norwich Craft Beer Festival is set to make its highly anticipated debut at The Waterfront this May, offering beer enthusiasts a weekend of unique brews and lively entertainment. Organized by Toby Westgarth, owner of Sir Toby’s Beers, and his business partner Dominic Burke, the event promises to celebrate the best of craft beer culture in the city.

“This is something we’ve wanted to do for several years,” said Mr. Westgarth. “Last year, we were focused on setting up our new bar, Bier Draak, on King Street. Now, we’re thrilled to finally bring this festival to life in Norwich.”

The festival will take place on May 3 and 4, with The Waterfront transforming into a hub for craft beer lovers. Tickets for afternoon and evening sessions will soon be available, offering attendees the chance to sample a curated selection of beers from well-known and emerging craft breweries. A special collaboration beer is also in the works to mark the occasion.

“This is a celebration of weird and wonderful concoctions, all hand-picked to complement each other under one roof,” Mr. Westgarth explained. “It’s about showcasing small, independent craft breweries and their innovative creations.”

The event will not be limited to beer alone. Organizers are working to secure local food traders and DJs to ensure a vibrant atmosphere throughout the two-day festival. Additionally, discussions are underway with vendors from Norwich Market to host pop-ups during the weekend.

While the Norwich Beer Festival, traditionally held at The Halls, went city-wide this year due to renovation works, the Craft Beer Festival aims to carve out its own niche. “You could never rival the Norwich Beer Festival at The Halls,” Mr. Westgarth noted. “This is specifically about craft beer and celebrating the creativity of small, independent breweries.”

The Halls are expected to reopen in time for the Norwich Beer Festival’s return in October 2025. Meanwhile, the Craft Beer Festival is already generating significant interest from breweries and food traders, signaling a promising start for this new addition to Norwich’s event calendar.
