Grand Tokaj Winery is set to prioritize the production of higher-quality wines in the coming years, as announced by the winery’s owner and a board member of the University of Piedmont Tokaj Foundation on Wednesday.
György Waberer, co-chairman of the Tokaj Wine Region Development Committee, revealed that the board has approved a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the quality of the winery’s products. As part of this initiative, Grand Tokaj’s management will develop a business plan focused on sourcing only grapes that meet strict quality standards.
In line with this effort, the winery plans to reduce its grape purchases by 50% this year, while significantly increasing the purchase price to 280 forints per kilogram. According to public records, Grand Tokaj faced a loss of 526 million forints in 2023, despite generating revenue exceeding 310 million forints.
