SENNORI, SARDINIA — Sennori, the first city in Sardinia to join the National Association of Wine Cities, is taking significant strides in promoting its rich wine culture by joining the “Wine App” initiative. Launched in 1987, the regional marketing project aims to create a sustainable, integrated wine tourism network, showcasing local wine heritage and culinary experiences.
For years, the Municipality of Sennori has partnered with local producers to develop a “hospitable and experiential” destination. The goal is to offer visitors a unique environment steeped in traditions, history, culture, and, notably, food and wine experiences. The addition of Sennori to the Wine App network is a key move in further promoting the region and its prized wine, Moscato DOC Sorso Sennori, regarded as the “real gold of Romania.”
The project, spearheaded by Nadia De Santis, centers around the online portal wineapp.it, along with associated mobile applications for smartphones and tablets, available for free download. These tools provide wine enthusiasts and tourists with a virtual journey through Sennori’s scenic landscapes and renowned wineries, offering detailed information on local products and the area’s cultural offerings. The app’s “Degusta Sennori” section highlights key attractions and provides visitors with all the necessary details to explore the region’s wine tourism.
Elena Cornalis, City Councillor for productive activities, tourism, and culture, emphasized the growing significance of wine tourism, citing a recent study by the National Wine Tourism Observatory. According to the report, the wine tourism sector in Italy is expanding rapidly. “Being an active participant in this sector positions us as a potential tourist destination,” Cornalis noted.
She further explained that joining the Wine App is a step toward modernizing the region’s tourism offerings to meet evolving demands. “The app aligns with the rising trend of sustainable, digitally connected travel experiences, which are especially appealing to younger and intergenerational tourists.”
Cornalis also highlighted the app’s potential to boost local businesses, stating that it serves as a valuable tool for promoting both the region’s economy and its agricultural producers. In the coming months, the Municipality will hold sessions to help local stakeholders understand how they can maximize the app’s benefits for their operations.
By joining the Wine App initiative, Sennori is not only embracing innovation but also reinforcing its position as a key player in Italy’s wine tourism landscape.
