Bird in Hand winery has launched two new wine ranges, marking its debut in Tasmania’s prestigious wine-growing region. The Tasmanian Series and the Tasmanian Reserve Series highlight the unique cool-climate expressions of the island, with the initial release featuring a lighter Nouveau Pinot Noir and a crisp Riesling from the Tasmanian Series, along with a full-bodied Reserve Series Pinot Noir.
Co-founder Andrew Nugent expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion into Tasmania, emphasizing the region’s ideal conditions for grape-growing and winemaking. “This marks an exciting chapter, bringing our team’s craftsmanship to Tasmania, while maintaining our commitment to producing world-class premium wines from the magnificent Adelaide Hills,” Nugent said.
Senior Winemaker Sarah Burvill focused on the distinct qualities of Tasmania’s terroir in the new releases. “These wines reflect the rugged wilderness of Tasmania and its ability to produce wines of exceptional purity and elegance. Our inaugural releases highlight the clarity of the fruit and the distinct character of the region, creating wines that showcase the unique flavors and complexity of Tasmania’s landscape,” she said.
The launch coincides with Bird in Hand’s announcement to take over hospitality operations at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart starting in 2025. This includes a new restaurant, inspired by the flagship LVN Restaurant in Adelaide Hills, set to open in late 2025. Bird in Hand will also manage weddings and events across the botanical gardens’ scenic grounds, bringing its signature approach to fine dining and service.
Initially, the limited-release wines will be available to members of Bird in Hand’s Flight Club, with all three wines offered at select venues within the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. The Riesling and Reserve Series Pinot Noir will also be available by the glass at the LVN Restaurant in Adelaide Hills.
