Ten breweries from the Houston area earned a total of 14 medals at the 2025 Texas Craft Brewers Cup, a prestigious competition that highlights the best independently brewed beers in Texas. The event, held over the weekend, saw breweries from across the state compete in 30 categories, celebrating a wide variety of beer styles.
Among the Houston-area winners, Galveston Island Brewing, Hound Song Brewing Co., No Label Brewing Co., and Project Halo Brewing each took home gold medals. Vallensons’ Brewing Company, based in Pearland, stood out by securing three medals despite not winning in a specific category.
“We all support each other in the Houston community, and it was really exciting to see so many awards going to Houston-based breweries,” said Melissa Mendez, co-owner and head brewer of Project Halo Brewing in Fulshear.
The top honors of the competition went to Good Line Beer Co. from Lubbock and False Idol Brewing from North Richland Hills, both named “Breweries of the Year.” In total, 162 breweries entered the competition, showcasing their best brews in a variety of categories.
Eight of the 10 Houston-area breweries that received awards are located outside the city, with notable exceptions being Saint Arnold Brewing Company, located just north of downtown Houston, and True Anomaly Brewing in East Downtown. Galveston Island Brewing, Project Halo Brewing, and Vallensons’ Brewing Company each won multiple medals, further highlighting the strength of the local craft beer scene.
Melissa Mendez of Project Halo, which has been in business for just three years, noted the recognition brings valuable exposure to the brewery. Their triple black IPA, “Disco Demon,” won first place in the Specialty Hoppy category, while the Baltic porter, “High Frequency,” earned a third-place finish in the Barleywine & Strong Ale category.
“The awards ceremony gave us the opportunity to meet other brewers, and people were surprised to learn about us. It’s great exposure and helps us grow our name,” Mendez said.
