Rocky Ridge Brewing, one of Western Australia’s most cherished independent breweries, is broadening its footprint with the grand opening of a new venue in Duncraig. Set to open on 28 February, just in time for the Labour Day long weekend, this new location will offer the northern suburbs of Perth an exciting space to enjoy award-winning beer, delicious food, and a warm, community-focused atmosphere.
A Legacy of Excellence and Sustainability
Founded in Jindong, within the renowned Margaret River wine region, Rocky Ridge Brewing has steadily grown to become one of Western Australia’s largest independent brewers. With over three million cans of beer produced annually, the brewery has built a strong reputation for creating innovative brews that prioritize sustainability.
Rocky Ridge is Australia’s first and only Certified Sustainable and Carbon Neutral Brewery. It was recently awarded the 2024 Beer & Brewer Sustainability Award, further solidifying its leadership in sustainable brewing. Over the years, the brewery has earned multiple accolades, including being crowned Champion WA Large Brewery for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024) and securing numerous Champion Beer Trophies.
Why Duncraig?
The new venue in Duncraig represents a key milestone in Rocky Ridge’s expansion strategy. The location was selected for its community-oriented vibe, with the site featuring an old house surrounded by a beautiful tree that resonated with the brewery’s roots. The new venue will create a space for local beer lovers, families, and even pet owners to enjoy Rocky Ridge’s diverse offerings.
Hamish Coates, Managing Director of Rocky Ridge Brewing, emphasized the importance of connecting with the community, saying, “We want to provide Duncraig and Perth with the real Rocky Ridge experience, where they can see the inner workings of our brewery firsthand.”
With a capacity of 250 people, the Duncraig venue will blend the charm of a cozy bar with the atmosphere of a full-sized pub. The venue will open daily, serving a variety of share-style dishes made with local produce, complementing the brewery’s extensive beer selection.
A Broad Selection of Beverages and Food
Guests at the Duncraig venue will have access to 40 taps, offering a range of Rocky Ridge beers from classics like the Rocky-D Pale Ale to experimental options like the Imperial Smoked Maple Barrel-Aged Barleywine. For non-beer drinkers, the venue will also feature gin and juice on tap, signature alcoholic slushies, and a selection of local spirits and wines. Yallingup Cider will also be available, ensuring there’s something for every taste.
The venue will be dog-friendly, with the brewery’s resident pups, Ace and Jack, ready to welcome visitors. Families are encouraged to come as well, although a playground will not be available initially.
Sustainability at the Forefront
As with all of Rocky Ridge’s ventures, sustainability remains a key focus. The Duncraig location is a refurbished building, echoing the brewery’s commitment to upcycling and reducing emissions in new constructions. Additionally, the venue will soon install a solar array to reduce its power usage and will work toward adding a battery bank to maximize solar energy utilization.
Rocky Ridge is also committed to eliminating plastics and minimizing water consumption in all its venues.
Community Engagement and Local Initiatives
Central to Rocky Ridge’s mission is fostering a strong sense of community. The Duncraig venue will host local initiatives such as the Rocky Run Club and Neighbourhood Clean-Ups. The first clean-up event is scheduled for Sunday, 2 March, coinciding with Clean Up Australia Day.
Coates explained, “We are committed to building long-term relationships within our communities, not just a short-lived presence.” The brewery is already involved with local sports associations and community groups and plans to continue this engagement through events, collaborations, and outreach.
A New Chapter for Rocky Ridge
Rocky Ridge invites all beer enthusiasts to celebrate the opening weekend from 28 February to 2 March, coinciding with the Labour Day long weekend. The team is eager to share this new chapter of their journey with both loyal supporters and new customers.
