Tucson’s Slow Body Beer to Make Debut at 2025 Craft Beer Crawl

by Kaia

Tucson’s newest brewery, Slow Body Beer, will make its debut at the 2025 Tucson Craft Beer Crawl this Saturday, February 22. The brewery, founded by Lawrence Combs and Corey Shaver, opened in June 2024 at 831 E. 17th St. and is one of over 30 local and national breweries participating in the event, which will be held at 14 downtown locations from 1-6 p.m.

Slow Body Beer can be found at Corbett’s, the pickleball-themed restaurant located on North Sixth Avenue, alongside beers from Pueblo Vida Brewing, Dragoon Brewing, and several national brewers. Combs describes Slow Body’s beers as unpretentious, perfect for “drinking with pals,” and designed to enhance social experiences rather than steal the spotlight.

“We aim to create a super accessible brand that facilitates great experiences,” said Combs. “Our goal is to be a community space that offers simple, lovely lagers and session beers for the town we love.”

Combs, who began his brewing career in 2014 at Pueblo Vida Brewing, and Shaver, who gained additional brewing experience in Vermont, returned to Tucson to launch Slow Body. Combs emphasized the importance of community collaboration in shaping the brewery’s offerings.

Slow Body Beer, which currently employs six people, has gained a loyal following, thanks to its events and its presence at local taprooms. In addition to Corbett’s, the brewery’s beers are available at popular Tucson spots, including Tap and Bottle, Westbound, Time Market, and Tucson Hop Shop, among others.

The brewery specializes in lagers and offers its flagship Pils, Helles, and Blue on tap, along with a rotating selection of IPAs. Combs’ personal favorite is the Czech-style Blue Beer, a pale lager made with nixtamalized blue corn masa that’s ground in-house for each batch. “It’s warm, inviting, and bitter, perfect to wind down with at the end of the day,” Combs said.

The Tucson Craft Beer Crawl, produced by Tucson Foodie, promises to be an exciting event, with live music and food trucks accompanying the breweries along the route. The crawl will stretch from North Sixth Avenue to East Broadway, with stops on East Congress Street, East Toole Avenue, and North Fourth Avenue.

This year marks the first time Corbett’s, located on the historic site of Corbett Lumber and Hardware Company, is participating in the crawl. The brewery and restaurant, which features indoor and outdoor pickleball courts, is just down the street from Corbett Brewing, another stop on the crawl.

The participating breweries represent a diverse range of local, regional, and national talent. Tucson-based brewers such as Barrio Brewing, Bawker Bawker Cider House, and Dragoon Brewing will be joined by Southern Arizona newcomers like Tirrito Farm Brewing from Willcox and Copper Brothel Brewery from Sonoita. Other statewide breweries include Flagstaff’s Mother Road Brewing and Tempe’s Huss Brewing.

National brewers such as Oskar Blues Brewery, New Belgium, and Mexico’s Buqui Bichi Brewing will also be on tap, alongside local favorites like Ray Ray’s Sonoran Spirit Tea and Screwbean Brewing.

Tickets for the Tucson Craft Beer Crawl are available for $50, with designated drivers receiving free admission. Tucson Foodie members can purchase tickets for $25. Admission includes a commemorative tasting glass and two-ounce beer samples. The event is restricted to those 21 and over.
