Plans are underway to transform a shop in York into a bar specializing in craft beer, following a proposal for 42 Broadway in Fulford. The location, currently home to Lodge Cottage Farm Shop, would undergo a change of use from retail to a “drinking establishment and retail sale of alcohol to take away.”
The plan, submitted by Katie Speed from Fulford and her company Brewhemian Hopsody Ltd, aims to offer a variety of craft beers alongside other alcoholic beverages. The shop, which opened in October 2023 and offers fresh produce, meats, dairy, and bakery items, is set to vacate the premises by April 1, 2025.
In her proposal, Speed highlighted that the new establishment would align with the character of the local area, contributing to the area’s economic growth and creating jobs. She also emphasized that she has been in contact with the City of York Council and North Yorkshire Police Licensing teams, both of whom are aware of the proposal.
The bar is planned to operate until no later than 11 p.m. A beer garden is also proposed, complete with a 6-foot fence for privacy and safety purposes. The garden would close at 9:30 p.m. to minimize any disturbance. The plans include both a bar seating area and a retail shop.
Prior to the current farm shop, the premises housed a gift shop called Lots of Love. In June 2023, the location was granted planning permission to create a café in the back extension of the building.
