Moldova to Host 46th World Congress of Grapes and Wine in 2025

Chisinau, Moldova – The Republic of Moldova is set to host the 46th World Congress of Grapes and Wine along with the 23rd General Assembly of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) in Chisinau from June 16 to 20, 2025. Registration for the event is now open, with early bird discounts available from April 16 to 30, 2025. The pre-registration deadline without payment is April 15, while formal registration closes on May 31.

Organized by the Moldovan Government, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, and the National Office of Grapes and Wine (ONVV), the congress will convene international experts under the theme “Charting the Future of Grapes and Wine: Embracing Resilience, Enhancing Value, Promoting Innovation.” A strong response from the scientific community has resulted in the submission of 279 abstracts from researchers representing 32 countries. The papers are categorized into four key areas: viticulture (88), enology (100), economics and law (63), and safety and health (28).

The congress will feature four key sessions: Resilient Viticulture Practices for Sustainable Ecosystems, Adaptive and Innovative Technologies in Sustainable Enology, Value Chain Improvement and Resilient Business Models, and The Intersection of Wine, Nutrition, and Health.

Moldova’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Ludmila Catlabuga, extended an invitation to the global wine community, emphasizing the event’s role in celebrating both tradition and innovation. State Secretary Andrian Digolan Digolean highlighted Moldova’s deep-rooted connection to viticulture, noting that the country has four hectares of vineyards for every 100 inhabitants, with 15% of the workforce employed in the wine sector.

OIV President Yvette Van der Merwe underscored the importance of global collaboration in addressing industry challenges, while OIV Director General John Barker emphasized the significance of the gathering, marking the first congress in the organization’s second century and aligning with the launch of its new strategic plan.

Established a century ago, the OIV serves as the premier scientific and technological authority for the global grape and wine industry. Its 51 member countries collectively represent the majority of global wine production, consumption, and vineyard area. The organization continues to play a pivotal role in setting international standards and best practices in viticulture, winemaking, legislation, and consumer health.
