Carlsberg Launches Limited-Edition Alcohol-Free Beer Delivered by Electric Freight in Sweden

by Kaia

Carlsberg has introduced a groundbreaking, limited-edition alcohol-free beer in Sweden, marking a milestone in its sustainability efforts. This new product, dubbed Electric Beer, has been transported entirely by electric-powered freight, a collaboration with Swedish transport company Einride.

The beer, which is made using 100% renewable energy, is packaged and transported through a fully electric and autonomous logistics process. This includes the use of electric conveyor belts, forklifts, and packing robots. Carlsberg’s innovative approach to sustainable production and transport represents a significant step forward in reducing its environmental impact.

The release, available to Swedish consumers later this year, is the result of a partnership with Einride that began in 2022. By the end of 2025, Carlsberg aims to have between 35% and 40% of its freight operations in southern and western Sweden powered by Einride’s AI-driven technology.

Peter Hammarstedt, Managing Director of Carlsberg Sweden, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the partnership: “We are pleased with our collaboration with Einride and the advancements we are making in sustainable logistics. At Carlsberg Sverige, we are committed to taking concrete steps toward a more sustainable operation. Increasing the use of electric vehicles in our transport chain is one such step.”

Hammarstedt also highlighted the broader goal of raising awareness about sustainable logistics, adding, “We hope this initiative will spark interest in smart, sustainable logistics and inspire others across various industries to take similar action.”

This announcement follows a similar move by Carlsberg’s competitor, Heineken, which expanded its partnership with Einride last month to include electric-powered transport for its Austrian routes.

With both companies advancing electric freight solutions, the beverage industry is witnessing a growing shift toward greener logistics practices.
