Carlsberg Sweden and Einride Unveil Electric Beer to Showcase Sustainable Freight Innovation

by Kaia

Carlsberg Sweden and Einride have introduced a limited-edition, alcohol-free beer, which is shipped entirely through electric-powered freight systems. This innovative product, named Electric Beer, underscores the role of technology in shaping the future of sustainable transportation.

The launch of Electric Beer aligns with the growing partnership between Carlsberg Sweden and Einride, with the second phase of their collaboration now in progress. By the end of 2025, Einride’s AI-powered systems will handle 35-40% of Carlsberg Sweden’s freight operations across southern and western Sweden.

“This partnership isn’t just about sustainability,” said Linnéa Kornehed Falck, founder and deputy CEO of Einride. “It’s about pushing the boundaries of freight technology. Electric trucks represent a key step in redefining how goods are transported, and this campaign highlights the possibilities when tradition and innovation come together.”

Each can of the limited-edition beer features a QR code, allowing consumers to access data on both the brewing process and the electric transportation journey. This includes detailed information on a specific route between Malmö, Falkenberg, and Gothenburg, providing a closer look at the intersection of technology and logistics.

Crafted with renewable energy, Electric Beer is produced using 100% sustainable power, while its distribution is made possible by autonomous systems including electric conveyor belts, forklifts, and packing robots. The beer’s transportation is optimized using Einride’s technology to ensure efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

Key elements of the logistics include:

Route Planning: AI-driven algorithms meticulously map each journey, factoring in variables like energy consumption, battery life, cargo weight, and terrain.

Maximized Utilization: Einride’s machine learning tools combine data from shipments, vehicles, and charging stations to ensure trucks are always fully charged, loaded, and ready for delivery.

On the Road: The electric fleets operate with zero tailpipe emissions, reducing noise pollution by 50% and eliminating all nitrogen oxide emissions compared to traditional diesel trucks. Real-time communication helps ensure that deliveries stay on track.

“We’re excited about our partnership with Einride and the progress we’ve made in sustainable logistics,” said Peter Hammarstedt, managing director at Carlsberg Sverige. “Carlsberg has always prioritized sustainability, and expanding electric vehicle use in our logistics is a key part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. We hope this initiative inspires other industries to take similar steps toward smarter, more sustainable logistics solutions.”

Since their collaboration began in 2022, Carlsberg Sweden and Einride have saved over 418 tonnes of CO2 emissions and driven 340,000 kilometers with fully electric vehicles—equivalent to more than eight trips around the globe.

The launch of Electric Beer marks a significant milestone in their expanding partnership, which is set to scale further by the end of the year. With plans to save up to 2,460 tonnes of CO2 annually through this expanded operation, the initiative promises to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future in logistics.
