Philadelphia’s Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores, including the branch situated in Cheltenham Plaza, Montgomery County, have been compelled to close temporarily in the wake of a spree of robberies that unfolded on Tuesday night, resulting in the plundering of at least 18 stores.
During the overnight hours, sizable groups of individuals targeted multiple stores, engaging in acts of robbery and causing damage to property throughout the city. Law enforcement authorities have reported the apprehension of approximately 20 individuals involved in these criminal activities, and numerous businesses were adversely affected.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries among store employees, although the traumatic events understandably left some shaken. Shawn Kelly, the Press Secretary for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, conveyed in a statement that the decision to close the stores was primarily made in the interest of employee safety. Additionally, assessments will be conducted to determine the extent of damage sustained by the stores. Subsequently, the stores will reopen once safety can be assured and necessary repairs have been completed.
“We extend our sincerest apologies to our valued customers for any inconvenience caused and express our gratitude for their patience and understanding during this challenging time,” Kelly remarked.
