Bulgaria’s wine exports to countries outside the European Union have continued to decline steadily over recent years, according to figures published by the EU’s statistics agency Eurostat on April 28.
Data for 2024 show that Bulgaria exported wine worth 5.86 million euro to non-EU countries, a decrease from more than eight million euro recorded in 2023. The downward trend has been consistent, with exports valued at 8.84 million euro in 2022, compared to 8.9 million euro in 2021 and 9.17 million euro in 2020.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Bulgaria’s wine exports to markets outside the EU were significantly higher. In 2019, exports totaled 12.37 million euro, while in 2014, they peaked at 19.04 million euro, according to Eurostat data.
The figures underscore a persistent decline in Bulgaria’s wine trade with non-EU countries over the past decade.
