HARRISBURG – The Senate Law and Justice Committee took a decisive step today in favor of Senate Bill 882, a legislative initiative introduced by Sen. Judy Ward (R-30). The bill, which aims to broaden the range of wine and spirit options available to customers in Pennsylvania’s restaurants and taverns, received the committee’s approval.
Sen. Ward emphasized the significance of her proposal, stating, “My bill would ensure customers have access to a wider selection of wines and spirits when they dine at restaurants and taverns. This is a practical approach to guarantee that products in high demand are readily accessible to consumers and to prevent suppliers from facing penalties for their success.”
The existing regulatory framework empowers the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) to impose restrictions on the direct sale of products from suppliers to liquor licensees through the special-order wine and spirit sales system. At present, the PLCB holds the authority to modify these restrictions at its discretion. The passage of Senate Bill 882 represents a potential enhancement of choices for patrons in Pennsylvania’s dining establishments, offering a more diverse and customer-centric dining experience.
