Tsingtao beer, a well-known Chinese brand, has faced a significant consumer backlash in South Korea after a video circulated on social media, allegedly depicting a worker urinating into a beer tank at one of the company’s facilities in China.
This video, which gained tens of millions of views since its emergence on Thursday, shows an individual in a helmet and blue uniform climbing over a high-walled container and seemingly urinating into its contents.
Tsingtao, China’s second-largest brewery and a prominent exporter responded to the controversy by reporting the incident to the police. In a statement, the company stated, “Our company attaches high importance to the relevant video that emerged from Tsingtao Brewery No. 3 on 19 October.”
Furthermore, Tsingtao assured the public, saying, “At present, the batch of malt in question has been completely sealed. The company continues to strengthen its management procedures and ensure product quality.” The incident has led to swift repercussions in South Korea, with restaurants and consumers displaying a noticeable aversion to Tsingtao beer.
