In a significant tribute to the burgeoning quality of Chinese winemaking, Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace have launched the inaugural Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards. This pioneering event, endorsed by the Macao Government Tourism Office, represents the first-ever awards program exclusively dedicated to premium Chinese wines. Drawing an impressive array of over 750 submissions from nearly 200 of China’s leading wineries, the competition heralds a new era of recognition for the country’s flourishing wine industry.
Touted as “the world’s largest competition of Chinese wines of international standard,” the winners of this prestigious event will be unveiled at a grand awards ceremony hosted at Wynn Palace on April 13. The submissions underwent rigorous evaluation by an esteemed international panel comprising 27 judges, including seven revered Masters of Wine.
Enthusiasts and connoisseurs converged in Macau from March 1-5 to partake in a series of exclusive wine dinners and masterclasses led by esteemed wine experts from around the globe. Linda Chen, President, Vice Chairman of the Board, and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited, expressed the company’s privilege in hosting renowned wine experts and underscored the awards’ role in spotlighting premium Chinese wines on a global platform. Chen remarked, “This event not only celebrates the excellence of the Chinese wine industry but also reinforces Macau’s status as a UNESCO-designated ‘Creative City of Gastronomy.'”
Cheng Wai Tong, Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, lauded the initiative for enriching Macau’s tourism offerings and providing travelers with diverse experiences.
The Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards aims to elevate the profile of Chinese winemakers in upscale markets. Winners will be conferred the prestigious “Wynn Signature Award” label and gain access to national masterclasses and hospitality events. The competition’s judging panel, comprising esteemed professionals such as Masters of Wines, Master Sommeliers, winemakers, educators, and journalists, was led by Eddie McDougall, Chair of Judges. McDougall emphasized the competition’s commitment to maintaining a rigorous and professional evaluation system.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the event featured eight exclusive wine-related events hosted by distinguished experts at Wynn Palace and Wynn Macau. These included masterclasses, specialty wine dinners, and presentations, offering unparalleled insights into the global wine industry.
