Spain-based distillery MG Destilerías has broadened its ready-to-drink (RTD) offerings with the acquisition of Coppa Cocktails from Dutch counterpart Toorank International Spirits.
The agreement, finalized for an undisclosed sum, marks MG Destilerías’ expansion into the RTD segment, complementing its existing product range, including MG Spirit, a line of spirit-based beverages.
Solène Bruna-Fiorentino, Head of Global Marketing at MG Destilerías, highlighted the significance of adding Coppa Cocktails to their portfolio. She stated, “The incorporation of Coppa Cocktails, renowned for its 16 ready-to-serve cocktails crafted from natural ingredients, enables us to cater to consumers seeking versatility, convenience, innovation, flavor, and quality.”
Bruna-Fiorentino further emphasized that this acquisition will bolster MG Destilerías’ presence in key international markets such as the United States and Europe, as well as in the global travel retail sector.
MG Destilerías has been approached by Just Drinks for additional commentary on the acquisition.
Toorank CEO Natal da Graça, together with bartender Richard Zijlstra, introduced the Coppa Cocktails brand in 2008. Following a relaunch in 2019, the range underwent redesign and expansion, focusing on natural flavors and modern branding to resonate with contemporary consumers.
Reflecting on the brand’s journey, da Graça expressed optimism about Coppa Cocktails’ future under MG Destilerías’ ownership. “With the sale to MG Destilerías, Coppa is poised to achieve global recognition, benefiting from the nurturing care of a family-owned company passionate about their craft,” da Graça commented on LinkedIn.
Coppa Cocktails now joins MG Destilerías’ diverse portfolio, which includes the acclaimed Le Tribute brand spanning various categories and Santísima Trinidad de Cuba rum.
In a notable transaction in 2022, MG Destilerías, in collaboration with partner Vantguard, divested Gin Mare to Brown-Forman.
Meanwhile, the Toorank portfolio encompasses brands like Aspen’s schnapps, Sloane’s gin, and Rebellion rum.
The management buy-out of Toorank in 2019 by da Graça and MD Henny Tadema marked a significant transition following former owner Toon Blij’s retirement from the board after nearly three decades of involvement with the company, which he acquired from Metaxa in 1990.
