On Wednesday, Sapporo Beer celebrated the grand opening of Yebisu Brewery Tokyo, a brand experience center featuring brewing facilities situated in Tokyo’s vibrant Ebisu district, the historic birthplace of Yebisu Beer. This momentous occasion marks the first time in approximately 35 years that Sapporo Beer has recommenced operations in Ebisu since halting production in 1988 due to factory relocation.
Nestled within the bustling Yebisu Garden Place complex in Shibuya Ward, the new brewery invites visitors with no entrance fee to immerse themselves in a sensory journey of brewing excellence. At the facility’s taproom, patrons can indulge in a selection of approximately six freshly brewed beers, priced from ¥1100 per glass. Among the offerings is “Yebisu Infinity,” a special brew crafted by reselecting the yeast originally utilized at the Yebisu factory over three decades ago. Complementing the brews, guests can savor a variety of finger foods ranging from ¥400 to ¥800 per plate.
An engaging exhibition area showcases a treasure trove of photographs and historical artifacts, tracing the illustrious 130-year history of Yebisu Beer, offering visitors insights into the brewery’s rich heritage.
For enthusiasts keen on exploring the brewing process firsthand, guided tours of the brewery will be available, providing an immersive experience led by Ryota Aritomo, the Chief Experience Brewer overseeing the production. These guided tours, priced at ¥1800 and lasting approximately forty-five minutes, will commence on May 15, offering participants a unique glimpse into the intricate artistry behind brewing Sapporo’s finest beers.
Ahead of the official inauguration, Yebisu Brewery Tokyo granted exclusive access to members of the press on Tuesday. President Hiroyuki Nose conveyed his excitement for the opening, expressing the brewery’s commitment to revitalizing Ebisu as a cultural hub that celebrates the timeless allure of beer, tailored to the contemporary palate.
